Drivetrains and Transmissions

As I’ve developed as a mechanical engineer, a common project/task has been to develop DC Motor transmissions or drivetrains. As a sophomore in college, I was on a team that designed a 3-stage plastic gear benchtop transmission, optimized for torque and acceleration for a course. Earlier that year I designed and analyzed the drivetrain for Caltech’s FSAE Electric Racing Team. In high school, I developed and built 3 separate 2-stage, 2-speed transmissions for my FIRST Robotics team. With each new design I’ve learned more and taken more steps to perform analysis on my designs before they reach the manufacturing stage.
